Demo Reel 2010

Here is my Demo Reel from 2010.  Eventually I will get around to making a new one with all the current work I have done, but for now, I will leave this one up.  It is funny how when you have work, you never really think about updating your demo reel, but I definitely need to get around to doing it sooner or later.  I may end up breaking my reel down into parts, like an Animation Reel.  Motion Graphics Reel, Modeling and Texturing Reel, etc...  It is kinda hard to make up your mind when you enjoy doing different stages of the process.  Anyway,  thanks for watching!  :)

Lost in Atlantis "Tek No" Music Video CG elements

Take a look at a few elements created by me for the LIA music video "Tek No."  The video features both the ship and the Asteroid Elements with some basic animation.  As a goal for the video, we wanted to make CG content that somewhat held up strong at a decent resolution but also needed to render quickly.  This was our result and I think we managed it pretty well.  I learned quite a bit on this project in regards to modeling complex structures that are not organic.  I am used to modeling organic shapes and sometimes I forget that for these kinds of objects, a little clipping can actually make things look better, and be easier to model.  I have a bad habit of trying to connect and manipulate every vertex into a solid mesh.  This was a fun project though and I used it as a springboard to learn a lot about Mudbox.  Thanks for viewing and I hope you enjoy the music video coming in the next week or so! :)

LIA Elements: Asteroids

Here is a sheet of the Asteroids used in the LIA TekNo Music Video.  I used a simple Lambert Shader in Maya with Displacement, Normal, and Color maps.  I used one large 4K map to house all 9 asteroid types.  We wanted them to hold up relatively close to camera, but didn't want a full map for each individual asteroid, (for memory and render-time reasons) so this seemed like the best approach for me.  I also rendered out 3 Asteroid Clusters to Composite into the background of the final video.  Using the 3 variations I was able to achieve a wide variety of background solutions to make the illusion of more asteroids in the scene.  Thanks for viewing!

LIA TekNo Promo 01

Here is some making-of content for our new music video produced by Culture Media and created by Big Bite Studios.  The premiere is just around the corner and we are really excited to finally show off all the hard work.  There will be some re-rendering and a few tweaks to the final output after the premiere, but overall I think we did exactly what we set out to do, and it is really rewarding to see the project come from just a fleck of inspiration to where it is now.  Much love to Kevin Rich, and Frankie Mendoza for all the hard work put into the video.  The three of us had to tackle this enormous project while battling the grind of our day jobs.  The final video coming soon!
